Tim has broad practical experience acting on a wide range of general commercial disputes. This includes acting for parties involved in disputes arising in contract, claims in tort and equity, as well as claims under the many statutes that govern the rights and obligations of parties conducting business in New Zealand. In providing advice and representation, Tim’s focus is on identifying, at an early stage, an appropriate litigation strategy to resolve the dispute in a timely and cost-effective manner, without sacrificing the commercial goals of the client.

Spark New Zealand Trading Ltd v Bryan [2025] NZCA 153, where Tim acted for Mr Bryan in an appeal arising from High Court proceedings following an arbitration in which substantial damages had been awarded against a company he controlled. The case involved questions of res judicata and the use of prior findings, together with a limitation defence under the Limitation Act 2010; Mr Bryan was granted leave to argue that a significant part of the claim was time-barred.
